Our Story
My name is Clare, and my dreams have always been huge! Growing up on the Naval estate in Eastney, Portsmouth, I became obsessed with horses from the moment I laid eyes on them. At 10, my sister found a nearby stable, and I was hooked.
My dad always said I wouldn’t have my own horse until I could pay for one myself — which, naturally, I took as a challenge! I took on odd jobs and saved every penny until, at 14, I bought my first pony, a beautiful New Forest mare called Fern.
At 16, I began working at a racing stable and later became a personal groom for showjumping and dressage riders. Horses took me all over the country with Fern and another horse, Pagan, and gave me experiences I’ll never forget.
Life eventually changed. With three children, I had to say goodbye to my horses and moved into healthcare, working for the NHS in maternity.
In 2016, I lost my incredible mum to cancer. She was my biggest supporter, and losing her changed the way I looked at life. It made me realise just how short life can be and gave me the determination to stop simply dreaming about the life I wanted and start trying to create it.
Horses had given me so much happiness as a child, and I wanted other people to experience that same feeling — including children and adults who might not feel comfortable in a traditional riding-school environment.
Starting from nothing, I worked towards gaining my riding-school licence. There were plenty of obstacles, tears and moments when giving up would have been easier, but the dream kept growing.
And from that came Princess the Unicorn & Friends. 💜🦄
Princess changed everything. From the moment she came into my life, it felt as though she was meant to be here. Her confidence, character and ability to bring a smile to children’s faces helped turn a slightly crazy idea into the business you see today.
Today, Princess has a whole family of friends, and we’ve created a friendly little riding school where we want people to feel welcome, included and able to enjoy horses in their own way — whether that’s learning to ride, heading out for a hack, spending time around the ponies or experiencing a little unicorn magic.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built, but the dream is nowhere near finished. I still have plenty of big ideas!

Tuesday & Wednesday: 10am–4pm
Saturday & Sunday: 10am–4pm
Lessons and experiences are by advance booking only.
Holiday opening times and special events may vary.
Messages received outside opening hours will be answered when we’re next available.
